Castile Soap
Castile soap is made purely from vegetable oil rather than animal fat. You can see a bit of history about it on Wikipedia. One of the better known brands is Dr. Bronner's. If you don't want to pay shipping, I found mine at Trader Joes. I've also heard to look at your local health food stores.
You can use castile soap for personal bathing, dishes, general purpose cleaning, and laundry. It's also effective at getting rid of fleas.
