Castile Soap
Castile soap is made purely from vegetable oil rather than animal fat. You can see a bit of history about it on Wikipedia. One of the better known brands is Dr. Bronner's. If you don't want to pay shipping, I found mine at Trader Joes. I've also heard to look at your local health food stores.
You can use castile soap for personal bathing, dishes, general purpose cleaning, and laundry.
